The Move to Cabinets

Shortly after the birth of his first son, Tim and his wife, Angie, began building homes throughout East Texas. After a few years, they refined their focus to concentrate on cabinets.

Within months of that decision, the Kelleys found an available space in an old schoolhouse in Hawkins. In 1982, they started the construction of their current business facility and changed their name to Wood Mark Cabinets.

Though business was slow during the 1980s Oil Glut, they kept busy building cabinets and installing laminated-plastic countertops in homes and apartments throughout the Tyler and Longview areas.

Steady Growth

As their customer base grew, they continued to acquire more equipment and expand their facility to accommodate more employees. In 1984, they acquired their first “wide-belt” sander, their first commercial quality table saw, and shapers.

These tools enabled them to manufacture raised-panel doors and to use the computer programming skills Tim learned in college. With the purchase of an “Osborne 1” computer and a dot-matrix printer, Tim wrote his first cabinet door parts program to generate lists for cutting individual parts of raised-panel doors.
